Miles from Dallas

The Buffalo Bills come to Dallas next week tied for second place in the AFC East behind the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are sitting in second place over in the NFC East, quietly sneaking up behind the New York Giants who just won a thrilling victory over (who else?) the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Unfortunately, for the Cowboys, that climb to first place for Dallas may involve playing without star receiver Miles Austin, who went down with yet another hamstring injury.

To put into words the impact that Austin has for his time, fans can just look at the numbers. Even in a game where he went down and out, Austin caught two balls for 51 yards, meaning that he makes big plays, not small ones. Opponents always know they have to double and sometimes triple team his efforts to catch a long ball. If he can’t come back against the upstart Bills next week, Dallas may be looking to their on again, off again star quarterback, Tony Romo, hoping that he can make enough plays to other receivers. Fortunately for the Cowboys, Austin isn’t there only all pro receiver. Jason Witten (4 receptions, 76 yards on Sunday) and Dez Bryant (4 receptions, 71 yards on Sunday) could easily make a case for being the #1 or #2 receivers on the team.
