Oh, how we love to see our favorite athletes dive for a catch. In football, that diving catch might mean the difference between a touchdown and a win. In baseball, that diving catch might mean the end of an inning. But no matter what it means in the moment, we simply can’t get enough of it. And they know it.
So who can blame Carlos Quentin, a Chicago White Sox right fielder, for putting his body out there on a spectacular catch that ultimately cost him a shoulder? The MRI on Sunday indicated a AC joint sprain on the left shoulder, which left Quentin unable to join his team against the Texas Rangers in the finale on Sunday. Anyone who saw the catch knew that Quentin went down in an awkward fashion and most mortals, like us, would have required a little help getting up. Being the super man that he is, Quentin got up and walked gingerly off the field, leaving the hole to be filled by Alejandro De Aza.
Fortunately for Chicago, De Aza was strong enough in his brief showing to literally route the Rangers with a convincing and terrifying 10-0 victory. So if the Sox are that good without Quentin, hopefully he makes it back soon and they’ll be that much better.
