They say that no one can replace a great athlete. All you can do is fill in the gaps of their absence. When it comes to Donald Driver, a 13-year veteran of the Green Bay Packers, we’re talking about a class act on a championship team. But wait! Driver needs to be replaced? That’s what doctors are saying after he went down with a knee injury against Denver on Sunday.
If we’re being honest, Driver hasn’t had much of an impact this season, making only 5 catches for 51 yards in the first three games. When he collided with Broncos safety Brian Dawkins while quarterback Aaron Rodgers scrambled for a touchdown, Driver didn’t get up very quickly. Although his teammates were able to help him off the field, it wasn’t long before a cart came to take him into the locker room. And if you were watching the game, Driver did jog back onto the field after halftime, but physicians are suggesting it may be more serious than Driver was willing to admit in the second half.
So who becomes the new Driver for Green Bay? Some say Jordy Nelson, the 4-year veteran who played a big role in the Super Bowl. Others say rookie Randall Cobb. Whoever steps up to fill in the gap, the Packers are flying high. Even without Driver having much of an impact, Rodgers & Co. walked all over Denver with a 49-23 wallop.
